“Ask yourself in the stillest hour of your night: Must I dance? Delve deep into yourself for an answer. And if this should be affirmative, if you meet this earnest question with a strong and simple “I must,” then build your life according to this necessity.” - Adapted from Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke
PDX Contemporary Ballet, made of dancers from New Jersey to California, was created in August 2015. The company’s fresh and innovative vision along with the combined efforts of artists, choreographers, and the dancers themselves have led to the recognizable success of the organization in the Portland arts community.
After selling out all three performances of the company’s debut production of “Metamorphosis”, a notable success came to company in April when PDX CB received its 501C3 status, which allowed PDX CB to be recognized by the federal government as an official non-for profit organization.
For their show in May, the company decided to pull from the diverse talents in its own group to create and set original pieces. After several weeks of conceptualization and rehearsal, PDX CB proudly presented “From Within” on May 6th and 7th at 7:30pm and May 8th at 2:00pm. The company has also had the privilege of working with the Northwest Piano Trio, a group of talented musicians who have lent their musical gifts to the company by providing live music for the show.
