PDX Contemporary Ballet
(n) A choice that needs to be made
November 9th-11th | N.E.W. Expressive Works
In its new season inspired by the story of Revolutionary Road, PDX Contemporary Ballet creates new work around the theme of existentialism. The first production, entitled Cloth, focuses on our freedom of choices and what one does with them. Opening with a childlike innocence where there is no realization of making choices, the work slowly unveils a White Dress. A choice that needs to be made.

Taking the stage in a very different light, four PDX Contemporary Ballet dancers will be selected to choreograph for our second performance, Materialize. Using the phrase “to choose authentically means we are individually responsible to undertake the challenge of continually creating ourselves,” the dancers will present work based on how this phrase connects to the White Dress. In this way they showcase their own interpretations and unique creativity about the choices we make.

Undone, the final installment of the season, asks the question of what happens when we compromise ourselves behind a veneer of cozy acquiescence. Is this a personal choice or the influence of society? How do we find ourselves choosing the White Dress?
